The 2019 Wynn House Heritage Ball was held on Saturday May 11, 2019 at The Wynn House. The Wynn House is delighted to continue this Columbus tradition and it is an honor to be able to continue the presentation of the Cotillion Club Debutantes every year. Serving as master of ceremonies for the evening was William Jackson Burgin. It was a wonderful evening and the Wynn House was decorated just perfectly. Robin Grier and her Wynn House Heritage Ball Committee did an outstanding job, as did the Wynn House staff for catering the event and getting everything ready. Over 550 guests attended this fundraiser benefiting the Wynn House.
THE DEBUTANTES: Sarah Elizabeth Amos, Emma Louise Averett, Catherine Ruth Boyd, Lucy Charlotte Boyd, Elizabeth Belle Copelan, Hannah Alston Fay, Elizabeth Lacy Gross, Dana Ann Hart, Maylyn Taylor Hinson, Dorothy Morgan Holt, Lillian Grace Kilpatrick, Grace Patricia Lewis, Ella Caroline McGregor, Ava Katheryne Pahl, Anna Catherine Sayers, Mary Laura Sayers, Catherine Coley Sigman, Katherine McNeill Snavely, Catherine Howard Ward, and Kathryn Miller Watts. 2019 Debutantes not able to attend were Ruth Anne Hasty, Camille Wright Hudson, and Isabella Marie Pitts.
The Wynn House was built in the late 1830’s for Colonel William L. Wynn, one of Columbus’s earliest and most prominent residents. In 1852, the property was sold to Henry Hurt and he sold the house to Colonel Hines Holt in 1855. In 1906, J. Thomas Cooper purchased the house and, using mule power, moved the structure forward three hundred feet to the crest of the hill so that the land surrounding the house could be subdivided. Mr. and Mrs. Stephen C. Butler bought the home in 1932, completely restored the property, and further enhanced the residence. James W. Woodruff bought the Butler home in 1958 and the historic mansion became the site of the Christian Fellowship Association and in 1974 became known as The Wynn House.
