Giving an old home a new life is always a labor of love and this 1848 home off of Warm Springs Rd. in Midland, Ga. was no different. The William Isaac Cunningham home was originally located within three miles of its current location. In 1995, it was moved and became the family home of Brooks Cunningham Dykes and her husband Gene. They added a new addition to the front of the original dogtrot home and also built a guest house to the right where they lived while renovating.

In 2018, Ron and Sue Ann Lucas bought the home and designed a new layout while keeping all the original wooden walls, floors and ceilings which are rarely seen today. Ron and Sue Ann like to think of their home as borrowed. It has stood through the Civil War and all the other times in our nation’s history so they feel they are really just borrowing this house while they're here but doubt they will be the last people to live there. When the home was reconstructed in 1997, a kitchen, master bedroom, master bathroom and closet were all added.

A period style wrap around porch was added along with an attached garage and a separate structure offering additional living space. Materials were sourced that would mimic period details for the house to flow from the new to the existing space.

People walk in and FEEL COMFORTABLE right away because it's an OLD HOUSE that's been given a NEW LIFE.
