CHAMPAGN BOLLINGER

With a taste steeped in tradition, Bollinger champagne is truly the finest in elegant celebration wines reserved for only the most memorable occasions. Bollinger continues to craft rich history and beauty into every glass so that their wine can be the pinnacle champagne experience everyone enjoys.

Bollinger has roots in the Champagne region dating back to 1585 when the Hennequins, one of the Bollinger founding families, owned land in Cramant. However, Bollinger’s story officially began with Athanase de Villermont, the youngest son of a noble family. Before the Bollinger house was founded in the 18th Century, the Villermont family practiced wine-making, though not under their family name. Athanase foresaw the extraordinary potential of the wines of Champagne, but as an aristocrat, he was forbidden to become involved in commercial activity. But after meeting Joseph “Jacques” Bollinger, a German man who left his country to learn about the Champagne wine trade, and Paul Renaudin, a local man fascinated by the world of wine, the firm of Renaudin-Bollinger & Cie was founded on February 6, 1829.

Jacques married Louis-Charlotte Hennequin Villermont, merging the Bollinger and Villermont families. This proved to be a smart move that allowed Jaques to inherit the property and become the sole owner. The property was passed down through several generations, including Joseph and George Bollinger. George’s son, Jacques II, and his wife, Lily, further expanded the business. The couple built new cellars, purchased more vineyards, and acquired the assets of another Champagne house. After Jacques died, Lilly took over, traveling the world to promote the brand. Since then, the company has endured through the centuries without losing its quality and passion from long ago.

Covering 178 hectares, the Bollinger vineyard features the Premier cru Pinot Noir grape variety that has an intense character, which forms the backbone of the Bollinger style. A taste that is both elegant and complex can only be found in Bollinger champagne, for which they have been awarded the Royal Warrant from the Court of England since 1884. The relationship between the British and Bollinger continues as the champagne House appeared in Ian Fleming’s fourth Bond novel, Diamonds Are Forever, and has been in Bond films since Live and Let Die.
