Moving is no easy feat, but with a little help –or a whole lot of help– from the right people, the process becomes much, much easier. Focused on customer service that ensures satisfaction, the moving company Two Men and a Truck, which is led by branch owner Will Dillon, is the ‘right people.’ TMT has been rated A-plus by the Better Business Bureau, and has received over twelve-hundred 5 star reviews. SVM sat down with the Columbus branch of TMT’s owner Will Dillon to learn more about the story and success of the company.

What’s the history behind Two Men and a Truck? TMT is a family-owned moving franchise out of Lansing, Michigan. The first franchise was opened in Atlanta in 1985 and was opened by Melanie Burgeron, daughter of the founder. Today, there are nearly 300 franchise locations in the US, Canada and the UK.

Why did you choose this particular franchise? Just out of college, I began working for TMT in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. I quickly realized how stressful moving was for individuals, families, and businesses. I loved how TMT emphasized “service, service, service.” The focus is to eliminate the stress of the actual “move” so families and organizations can worry about everything else that is going one during a relocation. The core values of the system matched up with my personal core values, and the long term vision of the corporate office gelled with my professional and business growth goals. Everything about TMT spoke to me.

TMT has been serving the Columbus community and surrounding area for over a decade. To what do you attribute your branch’s success and longevity? Happy employees and happy customers. We emphasize a positive and disciplined business culture that focuses on creating a warm work environment and fulfilled employees. I think this, in turn, helps our employees buy into our customer service focus. Ultimately providing a great customer experience has been our biggest accomplishment.

What kind of overall services does your company provide? We do literally anything that relates to moving: local and long distance moves, residential and commercial moves, internal and load-only moving, packing services, boxes and packing supply sales and delivery, warehouse receiving and delivery services, and even move consulting.

The Better Business Bureau has given your branch an A-plus rating, and your website boasts over twelve-hundred 5 Star reviews. How are you able to maintain that quality of service? Hiring, training, and customer follow-up. We put a strong emphasis on the caliber of people that we hire and have a dedicated training program that all employees complete once hired. Our training consists of in-house orientation, online learning classes, warehouse “move” training, a customer service course, and on-the-job training with move trainers. We also emphasize customer communication, which allows us to learn what our customers do and don’t like. We understand that our customers provide the best feedback for our continued improvement.

TMT prides itself on giving back to the community through donations, partnerships, and charitable work. How does your branch give back to Columbus and the surrounding area? Community service is a huge deal for us. We want to give back to the community that we live and work in. We are partners with United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley (Stuff the Bus), Keep Columbus Beautiful (Shoe Drive), The Alzheimer's Association, Damascus Way, Valley Rescue Mission, and Open Door Community House.

What were the most unexpected challenges of opening your franchise? There have been a million unexpected challenges, but our biggest challenge is learning how to constantly improve. We offer a great service, but we know we must continue to get better in how we operate and in how we serve our customers. We are definitely up for the challenge.

What’s your favorite way to spend a Saturday when you are not working? Hanging out with my family while drinking Fountain City Coffee and watching the University of North Carolina play basketball. Go Heels! SVM
