How did you get into the boutique liquor store business? We were actually looking for investment property and came across the building. Southern Wicker had just moved out, and the space was wide open! We had the crazy idea of what if we turned it into the largest liquor store in town?! The idea was interesting. We took it a step further and asked ourselves what could we do to separate ourselves from other liquor stores? We decided we wanted to create a space that did not feel like a typical liquor store, and we wanted to provide exceptional customer service. After that, we had sold ourselves on the idea and figured we'd go for it!

Did you see a surge in business these last few months due to Covid19? Yes! Our store has been very busy. May was our busiest month with April, June, and July all being very elevated for this time of year. We also started offering curbside service because of Covid, and our customers have really enjoyed it. We have decided to continue to offer it for the foreseeable future.

What are some of the unique products that can only be found at The Bottle Shop? We offer a lot of unique wine, spirits, beer, and craft mixers because of the size of our store. We also have great retail items such as wine glasses, bottle openers, napkins and styrofoam cups with funny sayings, etc. Our most unique offerings are our store pick bourbons. We travel to a lot of distilleries and sample through barrels. Once we pick our favorite, the distillery bottles them and sends them to us. It's a great experience and allows us to offer truly unique bourbon to our customers.

What are some specific products your customers are buying these days? Seltzers and Titos! The hard seltzer craze is in full effect with most products offering a variety of flavors. Tito's Vodka has always been a big seller but has almost tripled in sales here lately.

What services do you provide for someone planning a party? We’ve helped plan numerous parties for our customers. If we know how many guests are coming, what's being served, and for how long the party is, we can make an educated guess as to how much the host will need. In the very foreseeable future, deliveries will be made available.

What's the best part about owning a business in Columbus? Both of us were born and raised in Columbus. It’s been great to offer our services and products which were needed in this area to our customers, a lot of whom are friends and family. We are very proud of what we've created, and look forward to continue serving this great community.

If you were stranded on a deserted island with only one drink, what would it be? Miles: Oregon pinot noir. Boo: Tito's with Magic Water (Lime Lacroix and a shot of strawberry watermelon flavored water). SVM
