Jenny and Philip Adams, with the help of Interior Designer Beth Beaudoin of B-Line Studio, Bubba Holland of H&C Construction, and Jack Jenkins of Jenkins Architecture, were able to transform a faded Georgian home in Midtown Columbus, into a joyous and vibrant family home.
There is something timeless about Georgian homes with its symmetrical design, classic proportions and decorative details and Philip and Jenny Adam’s home is the perfect example. The home was originally built in 1969 by Dr. and Mrs. Joe Chastain. Together they put a tremendous amount of thought into the finishes and details of the house. Also, this house was well-known for its intricate gardens. Mrs. Chastain had wonderful plants and, as with the interior, had thoughtfully designed the landscape.
In the summer of 2017 Philip and Jenny Adams bought the home, and spent six months renovating the home moving in one week before Christmas. With the professional help of Bubba Holland of H&C Construction, Jack Jenkins of Jenkins Architecture, Wildwood Gardens, Southern Roots Landscaping and Interior Designer Beth Beaudoin of B-Line Studio, this lovely home was given an updated remodel without losing any of the original charm.
The formal living room in the Adam’s Georgian home is simple, classic and symmetrical. The furnishings are all timeless and comfortable where you feel you can sit down and enjoy. The drapery fabric is from Highland Court, sofa pillows are from Cowtan and Tout, and the fabric on the chairs are Lee Jofa. The contemporary painting is of Philip’s great-great grandfather and was framed by Two Sisters Gallery. The painting over the linen sofa is from Peridot, Atlanta.
Philip loves color and the family room is a fun spot to add vibrant color. All surfaces and fabrics in this room are indestructible. The sofa fabric is crypton and the two armless chairs are upholstered in Honshu Thibault fabric. The french doors lead to the porch and patio which flow to the gardens beyond.
The green and white expanded kitchen flows seamlessly into the family room creating one big open space. The room can now seat ten people comfortably. The indestructible commercial grade tiles chosen by Beth Beaudoin of B-Line Studio are laid in a herringbone pattern which adds interest to the room. The kitchen appliances are from Daniel Appliance and Ferguson Showroom, and the white quartz countertops sourced by Randy Prather on the white cabinetry give this room a fresh airy feel.
The second powder bath is off the family room. The wallpaper features a coral trellis design by Quadrille. The wall adorns a vintage bamboo mirror. The vanity is an antique from Jenny’s grandmother that was redesigned by Beth Beaudoin of B-Line Studio.
The master bathroom, which was originally Dr. Chastain’s office, features an elegant white soaker tub from Ferguson Showroom with views to the spectacular gardens. The flooring is travertine from Acme Brick & Tile. Custom made cabinetry features his and hers vanities with faucets from Ferguson Showroom. The quartz countertops are sourced through Randy Prather.
In the dining room the wallpaper and drapery were existing. Beth Beaudoin of B-Line Studio in Columbus made the decision to remove the swagged top treatment and add drapery hardware to give the room a more updated look that fit in better with the rest of their interior. Beth also added the Julie Neill wall sconces and chandelier which also helped modernize and simplify the room. The original wide plank and wooden peg construction floor was carefully restored by Bone Hardwood Floors.
The study located right off the master bedroom is a private space where Jenny and Philip can retreat. The mohair fabric sofa fabric is from Highland Court and the drapery is from Rose Cumming. The pair of armless chairs are from Hable Construction and the pillows on the sofa are Brunschwig & Fils. The modern steel and travertine custom cocktail table was designed by Beth Beaudoin and made by local metal worker John Alakamovich. All the woodwork is original and adds to the traditional feel of this room.
The master bedroom was designed to bring the outside in by incorporating floral prints on the loveseat pillows and curtains. The fabric on the pillows are by Lee Jofa, and the crisp white bedding by Legacy Linens. The original dentil moldings are in a cream color and the walls are greige, which is a combination of gray and beige.
The gray powder bath off the living room, features wallpaper from Thibaut and vintage Sherle Wagner faucet and sink.
