At the end of the lane on Carter Avenue in Midtown Columbus sits a beautiful 20th-century home with a classic elegance that doesn’t lose a modern touch. In the early 1920s, Rebecca Flournoy Hamburger built a house next to Tranquilla, and according to family tradition, this was her summer cottage. But the city directory shows various occupants from 1923 to 1947 when Mrs. Hamburger became a permanent resident.

In the 1960s, after the Woolfolk family sold their antebellum Wynnton Road house to AFLAC, they bought the Hamburger home. Edward Neal designed the remodeling of the house at that time, which included enlarging the structure and giving it a new front façade.
