Step back in time - once a single-family home referred to as the "Battle House,” this historic Queen Anne Victorian home owned by the Addison Family is truly a masterpiece that was fully remodeled to regain its timeless charm. The house, located in the historic district, is just a short stroll from uptown and will take your breath away with its stunning architecture.

Edward and Susan Addison moved to Columbus six years ago from Atlanta. With plans to initially restore a different home, they were drawn to the Battle House, located at 727 Broadway, due to its spacious interior, large yard with a pool and amazing architectural details.

The Battle House, located right in the heart of Uptown Columbus, has a rich history. The home, constructed in 1874, was originally purchased by Dr. Thomas W. Battle in 1882. After his death in 1889, his son, Charlton Eugene Battle, inherited the home. He was a lawyer and served as a state legislator and senator later in his life. Charlton’s descendant Isabel Battle was the last of the Battle family to live in the home until her death in 1968.

It was then given to the American Cancer Society and served as an office building until it was purchased in 1975 and lovingly restored by Sonny and Susi Hamlett. Tom Gates bought the property in 2013 and completed further renovations. Finally, the home was purchased in 2020 by the Addison family and continues to serve as their residence today.

When you first walk in, it is as if the house wraps its arms around you. The Addisons were attracted to the home due to its intricate details to include crown moulding , hardwood floors, pocket doors and custom millwork. The interior also features lofty ceilings and an amazing collection of six 18th-century hand-painted stained-glass windows from France on the wall lining the stairs.

The home is a stunning three-story Queen Anne house with Second Empire influence that offers over 6,000 square feet in space. The house features a third-floor polygonal tower adorned with arched dormers and beautiful circular windows.

The interior of the home features 5 bedrooms with one currently being used as a downstairs family room and 4.5 bathrooms. It boasts a living room, separate dining room, chef's kitchen, walk-in pantry, dedicated office, laundry room and large third floor bonus room. There are two master suites - on the main level as well as on the second floor. This home is perfect for entertaining with its wraparound front porch and back porch, leading off of the kitchen through French doors, overlooking the lush landscaping and saltwater pool.

Wanting to make the home their own and fit their needs, the Addisons renovated the original Battle Home with Betsy Illges assisting in interior design. The living room sofa, purchased by Betsy, is decorated with beautiful Mohair fabric.
The home features an eclectic array of furniture, containing a mixture of antique and modern pieces. Most of the antique furniture in the living and dining rooms was acquired acquired from Edward's parents.

The fully renovated kitchen includes granite countertops, gas stove, island and a sunny breakfast area. Beautiful cabinets, installed by Peach State Cabinets, adorn the kitchen and master bedroom, while casement windows from Valley Fir & Redwood bring natural light into the room.

Throughout the Battle House, there are seven fireplaces and fabulous chandeliers and light fixtures decorating the hallways. The hummingbird pictures lining the walls of the master bedroom are from Hinson Galleries. The home’s original Heart Pine hardwood flooring was refinished by J & M Hardwood Flooring.

The outside of the home is equal in beauty to the interior. Colorful plants, both inside and throughout the yard, were purchased by Bloomers. The expansive property includes a private backyard oasis featuring a saltwater swimming pool and a large, open front porch. The pool is maintained by ASP Pools, while R & R Sprinkler preserves the sprinkler system.

Knox Pest Control acts as the Addisons pest control company, and Alexander Electric provides alarm and video monitoring services.
